In Shroud of the Avatar, avatars will be able to purchase property deeds for a lot containing a house.

Deeds[]

Types[]

  • Village deeds can be used to claim an available lot in any village, but not one in a town or city. These deeds are the least expensive.
  • Town deeds can be used to claim an available lot in any town or village, but not in a city. These are more expensive than village deeds, but less so than city deeds.
  • City deeds can be used to claim an available lot in a city, town, or village. Naturally, they are the most expensive type of deed.

Lots within cities are more valuable because cities are better protected, making it less likely that an enemy siege will prevent access to the house. There are also more services and potential customers available within a city, such as crafting, than there are in towns and villages. Likewise, towns are better protected and have more services and potential customers than villages.

Acquisition[]

Some backers will automatically get deeds as part of their rewards for their pledge.

Single-player offline play[]

In the single-player offline game mode, deeds will be available in most locations for an appropriate amount of in-game currency.

Online play[]

The method of acquisition for other players has not yet been decided. There are three primary methods being considered:

  • Weekly deed auction: One deed per area per week would be put up for auction for in-game currency.
  • Lottery system: Player characters purchase tickets for a chance to win a deed.
  • Land rush: Deeds are offered at an extremely high but fixed price until the supply runs out.

Houses[]

Lots come with houses, but players can purchase different houses to replace the one currently on their lot. Upgrading or changing the house is less costly than acquiring a new deed. Houses exist in the persistent world and can be seen by all players who are in the vicinity of the lot, though players can choose to lock their homes.

Costs[]

Except for houses granted through backer rewards, houses have an upkeep cost which can be paid for through in-game currency.

Decorations[]

Houses can be decorated both on the inside and outside.

Places of business[]

Players will be able to hire vendors to sell goods from their house. Ordinary vendors take a cut of the profits, but vendors acquired through backer rewards don't.

Item storage[]

Houses can be used to store items. While the items are always safe in the house, these items can't be accessed when the house itself can't be. Player characters have the option of helping to clear sieges that prevent access to the home or can choose to simply wait them out.
